In the wake of the Carrie White incident some 20 years ago, Sue Snell tries to help budding telekinetic Rachel control her newfound powers before her own rage causes another disaster!

Despite it’s many issues, I actually liked this movie. A more modern telling of the initial story of Carrie, where a depressed and downtrodden girl discovers her TK powers and uses them to fight back, but without any of the issues Carrie is known for: religious nutjob mother, period shower scene, and yes, no pigs blood prom night either. Instead Rachel (Emily Berg) has her own set of more modern problems: her folks ignore her, her best friend killed herself recently, that popular guy Jesse (Jason London) showing interest may just be another of the popular tormentors, and did we mention the budding Telekenesis? Sue Snell (Amy Irving, yes her from the original Carrie) realizes Rachel’s issues, at least the more dangerous ones, and tries to reach out in her limp and ineffectual way. And of course the popular kids decide to do something truly horrible to Rachel, more or less to trod on her for thinking she could ever be one of them. It’s not quite as dramatic as dousing Cinderella and Jock Charming in pigs blood, but Rachel’s reaction certainly is, complete with trailing rose-barb tattoos and much righteous destruction. More of a respectful homage to a modernized Carrie, The Rage is a good twist on a classic Horror show!
