New Life for Spy Hunter

Hollywood is going to try to jumpstart the G-6155 CIA Prototype Interceptor.

According to both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, producers Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) and Roy Lee (The Ring) are joining forces to bring the classic Midway videogame Spy Hunter to the big screen. The game-to-film languished in development hell for years when it was at Universal, where directors such as Paul W.S. Anderson and John Woo were involved at different points and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was attached to star.

Spy Hunter is now set-up at Warner Bros., which acquired the property in bankruptcy court last year. Chad St. John (Sgt. Rock, the Outland remake) has reportedly been hired to write the script.

The classic arcade driving game follows super-spy Alex Decker who, using his tricked-out sports car, must hunt down rogue agents and destroy as many enemy vehicles as possible while avoiding civilian casualties. Midway later developed a version of Spy Hunter for consoles such as PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube.
