Best Movies of 2009

The Dark Knight

Arguably the years best film, this first-ever Batman installment without Batman in the title won everyone over, mega-fan of Batman and his amazing villains or not.

District 9

A fine romp of a movie that can actually be taken in the humans versus aliens sense, but in a bad way.

Something is indeed very wrong with Esther, although trust me, it isn’t what you’d think.

A horror movie that manages to take a simple (if not entirely horrendous) premise and turn it into a real visceral experience. See this for truly great horror.

Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie and Crash and Eddie are back in their latest adventure, involving expanding their family (Ellie’s pregnant) and hunting down Sid in a hidden dinosaur jungle when he stalks off. Scratt even gets a girl in this one.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The first origins movie for the X-Men crowd, you don’t have to be a fan of X-Men or even Wolverine to enjoy the sheer hell out of this movie – but it does help.

Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen

Arguably a sequel that surpassed the first, this mad romp of great bloody transforming robots and Shia LeBouf is looked at by many as an apology for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. You figure out why.

Star Trek Zero

I know, that’s not the official name of the movie, but that is what the legion of fans, new and old, have taken to calling it. And believe me, fans and fanatics, Trekkies of alum and minis just starting, this is a movie that would have made Gene Roddenberry proud.

Any movie that has zombies, the Rules for surviving a zombie apocalypse read aloud by the awkward teenager, a Twinkie-loving Woody Harrelson, and a Zombie Kill of the Week involving a nun dropping a piano on a dead guy, totally has my vote!

Sherlock Holmes

And finally the best adaptation of Holmes to come out in ages, starring the Iron Man himself as Holmes and Jude Law as Watson. Get ready for a much more badass crime fighting mystery solving duo!

  1. Some interesting movies on you list though I’ll admit to being amazed that Ice Age 3 was on here. It doesn’t seem to fit with the rest. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the movies of 09.
